It feels like out nowhere YIPPS was born, and well it kinda was. Jorge Rojas, a prominent memester and swagster, was in town for work and visiting the homies and he asked me on the first night he was here, “let’s jam sometime this week.”
The rest is history.
Two days later we drove to the top of Los Angeles’s first park, Elysian Park. Although we didn’t know it at the time, we were starting something. I thought it would be cool to post about it on the good ol’ instagram to see if anybody wanted to join us and to my surprise, I got many replies, a lot of “bro this looks so cool”, “id love to come to the next one” and my favorite “you would.”
On top of that hill that first night was Mariano, Jorge, Carey, Cameron, Gabriella, Katya, Eytan, Isaac, David, Danny, Stephanie, George and myself. We unloaded the drumset, plugged in and made sound all night till the park rangers told us to leave. That first night, I felt free, I felt like I could do anything, except for the fact that we were locked in the park, leave is not something we could do, but like aside from that anything was possible.
I loved and love every person in that space. That night will forever be imprinted in my mind. The laughter, the talking, the vibing, the swagging. Everything, everywhere, all at once. Existing together.
